The Ketogenic diet simply works in helping burn fat because your body transitions from using glucose (carbohydrates) as its main source of fuel to using fat for its primary source of fuel.

What happens when you eat to many carbs...

Most western diets are very carbohydrate heavy, and when these simple carbohydrates are digested the liver breaks them down into sugars producing an insulin spike

Insulin- is an energy storage hormone. Insulin turns those simple sugars into fat.

High levels of insulin cause the liver to produce more fat in the body, and also can block receptors in the brain which let your body know when it is full, thus creating a voracious appetite, which can lead to over eating

This spike in insulin will generate fat production, as well as give you that mid day crash that usually happens after lunch, or a heavy carbohydrate meal.

Since you are decreasing your sugar and carbohydrate intake on the Ketogenic Diet you get rid of those spikes in insulin. This is wayyy easier on your liver, and ultimately transitions your body into using fat as its primary energy source, and then slowly burns the fat of of your body
